About Us

The University of Utah Molecular Medicine Program (U2M2) was established in 2007 and is an expansion of the Program in Human Molecular Biology and Genetics (HMBG). The HMBG program was initially funded by the George and Delores Eccles Foundation and from the Lucille P. Markey Charitable Trust. U2M2 is currently funded institutionally by the Senior Vice President of Health Sciences. Twenty-four current and past faculty members at the University have been recruited through U2M2/HMBG programs. Of the 24 past and present investigators, one was inducted into the National Academy of Science, two were appointed Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators, twelve were elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigators (ASCI), six were elected to the Association of American Physicians (AAP), seven have become chiefs/chairs/directors, four have served as Chief Science Officers of biotechnology companies or Vice Presidents in pharmaceutical companies. Four biotechnology companies have spun off from the U2M2/HMBG program.
