Dr. Ademuyiwa Aromolaran, Ph.D., FHRS, FAHA

Dr. Aromolaran is from the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute and his research focuses on how obesity-diabetes and related pathologies (lipotoxicity, inflammation) predispose patients to cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. More specifically, his research is focused on understanding factors that predispose patients to irregular and often fatal heartbeats. An important objective of his research program is to identify and validate repair mechanisms through pharmacological and genetic interventions. Therefore, his primary focus has been on elucidating pathological mechanisms of major atrial and ventricular ionic channels that underlie life-threatening arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation and ventricular fibrillation), that are acquired in metabolic disorders. Experimental approaches and methodological chain couple isolated cardiomyocytes using electrophysiology, biochemistry, with optical imaging approaches, adenoviral-mediated gene transfer, and molecular techniques, programmed electrical stimulation in Langendorff perfused isolated heart, and ECG measurements.
